Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam after Makkah and Madinah. It is located in the Old City of Jerusalem and holds deep religious and historical significance.
Spiritual Importance:
Al-Aqsa was the first Qibla for Muslims before it was changed to the Kaaba in Makkah. It was also the site of the miraculous Isra and Mi’raj night journey of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Key Features:
Dome of the Rock: Known for its golden dome, it is not the mosque itself but sits within the same compound. It houses the Foundation Stone where Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is believed to have ascended to the heavens.
Qibli Mosque: The main prayer hall often referred to as Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Bab al-Rahmah Cemetery: Historic Islamic cemetery near the mosque compound.
Travel Tip:
Non-Muslims are allowed to visit but cannot enter prayer halls. For Muslims, be mindful of prayer times and security restrictions. Respect all local guidelines.
